The Quo Vadis? LegendAccording to this well-known legend, the apostle Peter was fleeing from Rome when he met Christ on the Appian Way. Peter asked, "Domine, quo vadis?" ("Lord, whither are you going?") and the Lord replied, "I am coming to be crucified again." Peter understood these words to signify that the Lord was to suffer again in the death of his disciple; so he turned and went back to Rome, where he was martyred. |
